While working on my new album ("Archetype Apocalypse") I've been coming across random web blips that feed the theme. So put some coffee on, settle back and prepare for neural re-alignment.
Maybe it IS the end of the world
Tuesday, 07 October 2008
At least, it is for about 1/4 of the world's mammals:
At least 1,141 of the 5,487 known species of mammal are
threatened, with 188 listed in the highest risk "critically endangered"
category. One in three marine mammals are also threatened, according to
the five year review.
Oh geez.
Why do I keep posting this kind of stuff? Am I sado-masochist? Trying to inflict sadist mental torment on myself and others? Or am I (insanely) brave in my need to stare into so many hearts of darkness? There's no judge qualified to mediate over THAT trial.
Have courage friends. Extinction phases have come and gone in the long history of this resilient earth. But perhaps humanity has never been the witness (or the cause) before. Truly amazing times...
The other day I was working on a new track about typical stuff... the power elite, modern slavery, culture control... you know, the usual:
Then this article popped into my email box. Little bit of "art preceding life" or perhaps "artist taps into zeitgeist" or maybe "lucky guess" depending on how much your dopamine receptors are activated:
A generation of young Britons is being criminalized for life by the
relentless expansion of the national DNA database, ministers are warned
today.
The Human Genetics Commission found there was widespread
mistrust among people presented with evidence of the size of the
database, which now contains the genetic records of more than four
million people. It called for the database to be taken out of the
control of the Home Office and police altogether, with one panel member
warning that the database was a "first step towards a totalitarian
state".

UPDATED! October 12th... more references about the growing police state that is the modern world. Click read more below.
So the question I'm asking in this new 'concept album' (yes, I listened to Pink Floyd too much as a teenager) is "are we really experiencing the end of the world, or are we really just under the control of an ancient archetype -- Armageddon fixation?
While you muse on that question, check out this CGI simulation of an asteroid strike:
